A place for discussing politics and current events in the US and around the world.
"Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting
on what to have for lunch. Liberty is
a well-armed lamb contesting the vote!"

To quote a great marginal thinker: "The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence." Furthermore, "there are known knowns. There are things we know we know...But there are also unknown unknowns, the ones we don't know we don't know."
Ummmm...I am pretty sure that if any of these candidates get elected the country will seriously be screwed (as will a number of other countries). I guess we should all just accept that the US military is setting up in Iraq for the long haul. Regardless of who wins (Democrats included), the military instillations we have built and the spiffy new 600 million dollar US embassy in Baghdad suggest that we will be there for years to come. But I am sure it will all work out for the best. It's not like fundamentalists militants will use it as a further excuse to attack the US or that US presence will persist as a grain of sand in the eye of Iran and cause a perpetual regional crisis that is likely escalate into war. All good things, right? I mean, a country can't be expected to assert its global hegemony and imperial will without causing a few conflicts escalating a few crises, right? Long live Pax Americana!*
*Pax Americana void in Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan (as well as all other -stans), The Occupied Territories, and possibly Venezuela and Cuba.
